Introducing New Faces at Jeff King&Co

With the New Year, it’s time to introduce a few new faces that have popped up here at Jeff King & Co throughout 2010. Some are brand new to our company while others have newly taken on higher positions worth celebrating. Read our mini interviews with Marci Nava, Brian Dutro and Matt Lovering below and be sure to introduce yourself next time you stop in!

MARCI NAVA Office Manager

How long have you been working at Jeff King & Co?

I started at JK&Co on December 6th, 2010.

What attracted you to this company?

I liked their focus of green building practices and the fact that it is a small business. I also like residential construction and being able to do construction/remodel on a more personal level vs. commercial building.

Tell us a little about your professional background:

The bulk of my experience comes from working as the office manager/bookkeeper at a larger residential builder in Southern California for the last 6 years. The company has been in existence for 30+ years and built custom estates in the Westside of Los Angeles. This means that I have learned procedures and accounting processes that are proven to work most efficiently. I have a bachelor’s degree and accounting certificate from Cal State Long Beach.

Something you love about San Francisco:

I love the culture, arts and food choices in SF!

BRIAN DUTRO Estimator/Production Coordinator

How long have you been working at Jeff King & Co?

I’ve been working at JK&CO since April of 2010.

What attracted you to this company?

I wanted to work locally and for a company that practices sustainable building as much as possible. Since I’ve always worked in structural framing, working with a general contractor exposes me to all aspects of the building process, expands my knowledge of other trades, and allows me to achieve a more holistic understanding of residential construction. I’m also a builder pursuing an MFA in creative writing at night, and some people think of those two things as incongruous. Jeff, being a general contractor with an MFA in sculpture, understands and is supportive of my artistic endeavors, and I really appreciate that.  Also, Jeff was willing to hire me. That weighed pretty heavily in my decision.

Tell us a little about your professional background:

My relevant professional background is as a framing carpenter, estimator, project manager, and carpentry skills trainer. I’ve also been a carny, a waiter, and an HR Manager.

Something you love about San Francisco:

I love bacon about San Francisco.

In 2011, you are looking forward to:

In 2011 I’m looking forward to growing personally and professionally (cheesy answer, I know).

MATT LOVERING Newly Promoted to Production Manager

How long have you been working at Jeff King & Co?

Seven years.

What attracted you to this company?

The quality of work, attention to detail, and the strong desire to improve.  Also the focus on green building and safe and healthy building practices that are often lacking in construction companies.

Tell us a little about your professional background:

I worked in commercial photography for 10 years and decided to make a change. JK&Co was the first place I interviewed with, and they hired me as an apprentice.

Something you love about San Francisco:

The people. San Franciscans are friendly and interesting with all sorts of interesting stories. Also the weather, as I like to say “you don’t have to shovel the fog like you do snow.”

In 2011, you are looking forward to:

Working in my new position as Production Manager, which is a new and interesting challenge for me.

Thanks to Marci, Brian and Matt for the introduction! We are glad to have you on the team.
