Jeff is now on the Advisory Council for stARTup Art Fair: San Francisco’s contemporary art fair for independent artists. Artist Ray Beldner (Jeff’s past art studio mate) and former gallery owner Steve Zavattero founded this pop up exhibition space three years ago and have already expanded it to Los Angeles and Chicago. This new marketplace gives the power back to the artists to present and sell their work on their own terms and take home 100% of all sales proceeds.
“In the last ten years, art fairs have become THE place where business is done,” explains founder Ray Beldner. “If you’re an artist without gallery representation, it’s like wanting to go to the prom but you don’t have a date. That’s where stARTup Art Fair comes in.”
During the exhibition, each room at Hotel Del Sol is taken over by a different artist for an intimate gallery space.
“There are many benefits to the hotel fair format,” Ray reflects. “Collectors find reasonably priced art from undiscovered talent, the artist is right there to meet and talk about their work, and there’s no question about who is benefitting from the sales.”
Call for Artists
Help spread the word: stARTup Art Fair is accepting artist applications through February 20, 2017. See the Call for Artists for details.
“stARTup is a giant matchmaking session. If we didn’t present these 50 artists, collectors wouldn’t be able to find them anywhere else. Every year we get better at making those love connections and our industry relationships deepen.” – Ray Beldner
Mark your calendars for stARTup Art Fair at Hotel Del Sol April 28-30, hope to see you there.
